BIBLE STUDY AND FELLOWSHIP

SundAY MORNING cHURCH sCHOOL

WE'VE GOT SOMETHING FOR YOU!

Ok, so I wanted to get your attention by saying that I have something for you. I do. Northside Drive does. It is Church School. I know you are thinking to yourself that you would really like that extra hour of sleep on Sundays. Yet, the community and learning that you are missing in a Church School class is much more valuable. In the young adults Church School class called Foundations, we have been digging deep into the Gospel of Mark. We have noticed nuances in the text that have really engaged us to help us better live out our faith in the world. It is exciting to take something from the classroom and then have an 'aha' moment in the normal places of life.

All of our Church School classes provide insight and challenges to keep us motivated when being Christians in our daily routines. The Friendship Class is reading spiritual writings that did not make it into the Bible. The Art and Soul Class studies biblical texts that wrangle in all of the edges of church and Christianity. The Roger Williams Class passionately discusses current events and popular books. The Seekers Class dives into justice and human rights issues. And Larry McSwain is beginning a class for middle-aged and senior men to tell their own stories and connect those stories to Christian living. And of course we have Youth and Children Church School classes for all ages. So yes! We do have something for you in Church School! You don't want to miss it!

Women of the Church

Women's Spring Retreat:
For many years Northside Drive has offered a spring retreat for women, an opportunity to get away from the distractions of daily life, to relax, enjoy one another, and strengthen relationships within the community of our church.  Paricipants report this unstructured weekend to be both a refreshing spiritual experience and a time of great fellowship.  It is held in April at an inn in the mountains of North Carolina (in recent years Blue Boar Inn).

Women's Fall Spiritual Retreat:
A few years ago, in response to the Church Council's year-long focus on spirituality, the Adult Education Committee began offering a second and different kind of women's spiritual retreat in the fall.  We go to a nearby retreat center (in recent years Banning Mills) in September with an outside facilitator for a more structured weekend of spiritual exploration, guided reflection and sharing.  Our topics have included Sabbath, Setting Priorities, and Peace.  The topic for 2010 is "A SPA Retreat," (Simplicity, Peace and Abundance).

NDBC Fall Women's Spiritual Retreat 2010: In-spa-ration…

Would you like to spend time with other women who want to grow in their faith, strengthen old friendships and create new ones? Do you want to simplify your life, find more peace, and become more aware of God's abundance all around you? Are you looking for a break from your hectic life and new ways to energize your spiritual life?

If so, NDBC invites you to attend a special weekend focusing on Simplicity, Peace and Abundance, a SPA retreat, September 17-19, 2010, at The Lodges at Historic Banning Mills in Whitesburg, GA. Our weekend facilitator will be Ellen Shepard, minister of religious life at the United Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, GA and experienced women's retreat leader.

Rooms will be mostly triples with three beds and a bath. The weekend will begin with dinner on Friday evening, followed by a program. Saturday will include a morning session, a free afternoon for rest or adventure, and an evening program. We will wrap up with a session and worship on Sunday morning followed by lunch. Total cost for the weekend will be approximately $250/person for lodging, meals and programs.

Please write a check for $100 made out to Northside Drive Baptist Church, and mail it to Patti Clark, 3000 Rivermeade Drive, Atlanta 30327. If you have any questions, please call Patti Clark 678-428-7898 or email patticlark@bellsouth.net. PLEASE HAVE YOUR DEPOSITS TO PATTI BY JULY 1.
