SUSTAINABILITY

GREEN CORNER
Footprints in the Green
Did you know environmental sustainability is connected with every aspect of you life? Yes, that means caring for God's magnificent Creation involves much more than recycling, buying local produce, and carpooling. These things are all important, but our eating habits, travel, housing, recreational activities, and even our spending habits all cause a significant impact in the global environment which we share with billions of people.
As a "green guy," I decided to track my "ecological footprint" expecting great results. Your ecological footprint is the total impact of your life and lifestyle on the earth. I took the online assessment at http://www.myfootprint.org/and was surprised to learn that though my ecological footprint is less than half the U.S. national average, it would take almost three planet earths to sustain the world's population if everyone lived like I do! Wow! This definitely caught my attention and I analyzed my results to find ways (some very small things that make a BIG difference) that I can reduce my ecological footprint even more. These things have become my new personal challenge as I spend the summer thinking of ways I can be an even better steward of God's Creation and promote more sustainable practices that not only help me and my community, but brothers and sisters around the world who share in this Creation as well.
I encourage each of you to block out 15-20 minutes of your time and take the ecological footprint quiz at http://www.myfootprint.org/. You may discover there are some simple changes you can implement to make a BIG difference in the world!

Gas turned off for the summer:
As a cost savings to the church the gas was turned off Monday, May 24 and will be turned back on October 1. This is part of the summer of savings program with Georgia Natural Gas. It will save the church over $4,000. We will have an electric water heater for use during those months.

New "Greener" Water Coolers
We are now using bottle-free water! We have installed Quench water systems in the church to filter and clean our tap water. This reduces our carbon footprint and provides clean, purified water. There are two taps on these new coolers, so you can have cold water or hot water for your tea!
