Eastertide 2026

"I Have Seen the Lord!"
Eastertide is a season of seeing God, in this case the risen Christ, among us. The theological word is Christophany, literally ‘seeing Christ.’ I want to share a few Christophanies that I’ve experienced this Eastertide.
- I saw Christ as I spent a few days with our oldest son, Marco, in his new home in Torrance, CA. It was so wonderful to be with him, see his favorite surf spots and hear about his love of the ocean (a spiritual place for him).
- I saw Christ in Evanston, IL as I worshipped with the Alliance of Baptists. I loved being with like-minded Baptists- fellow travelers unafraid to speak truth to one another, bound together by a desire to see love and justice prevail.
- I have seen Christ during my three years with my beloved Doctor of Ministry cohort. We are preparing to cross the finish line. My colleagues have shown me Christ in so many different ways. I have been challenged, encouraged and uplifted by some amazing pastors from across the country.
- I have seen Christ in our church as we have worshipped together, studied Scripture together, and ministered together. I rejoice in the caring relationships, the deep wrestling with faith in challenging times and in the ways that we are engaged with the world around us.
My hope and prayer is that you, too, discover Christ in this Easter season. As Mary Magdalene shared, “I have seen the Lord.” May we, too, be able to say that we have seen the Lord!
